FAQ’s

Are there risks in therapy?

Not really, especially when therapy is done ethically, and well. Sometimes, people begin to feel a bit worse before they begin to feel better. Typically, this is because therapy allows us to examine uncomfortable experiences and emotions which we may not have previously explored as deeply. Some forms of therapy, including EMDR Therapy and Brainspotting, may cause a temporary increase in intense emotions, memories, body sensations, etc. as past experiences are processed, but we will work together to make sure you feel safe and can tolerate whatever it is that arises.

What if I’m not sure if I have trauma?

That’s okay! We will explore your experience together to see where your blockages are and how you’d like to grow. If you’re reading this, you’re probably here for a reason :).

What if I get stuck in my trauma?

Really, you are already there, so let’s get you out. As we explore difficult memories in session, I will be sure we navigate through it together, when you are ready, and at your own pace. We will look at coping strategies to manage intense discomfort, and practice grounding techniques to help you stay in the present moment.

How long does therapy take?

It depends! There are many factors that determine how long it will take to complete treatment, including what kind of symptoms you have and how severe they are, how long you have had symptoms for, what your individual experience is, how much internal and external support you may have, how frequently you attend sessions, and how quickly you are making progress.

How can I get the most out of my therapy?

Be honest… and do your homework! The more forthcoming you can be about your experience, the better I can help. This means being honest about your experience with symptoms, as well as your experience in therapy. Of course, telling the whole truth can feel vulnerable at times. It takes safety and trust for someone to feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable, and it might take some time to build this trust. I invite you to communicate any feedback, needs, or questions you might have to me, so that I can help as much as possible in this process!
